The Sin City Session event took place this past weekend in Las Vegas, NV. Setup and organized by vegas ripper Chris Calkins. Skaters showed up from Cali, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Texas, and even the midwest. Revolution decided to come out and show our support. Grass roots events like this are great for blading, and doing it in a place like Vegas, you can’t go wrong.
We were excited to see a lot of our good friends from the surrounding areas. Also, Revolution Team Riders Damien Wilson and Joey Chase had spent the last 10 days filming for GC in Vegas, we wanted to surprise these guys with a visit! Around 9PM Friday Night, Austin Paz, Adam Caroselli, Jon Jenkins, and I jumped in Paz’s car and made the 5 hour drive thru the desert to Vegas.
The Sin City Session was set to start at 10:00 AM Saturday Morning. The first spot ended up being a bust, so we met up at the backup spot – Pro Park. We arrived to find everyone already sessioning the park. It’s always sick to cruise up to a park and see tons of bladers. Chris started the event, skaters started lacing the downrails.
Moving to the 2nd spot, was a ditch with a hip, wallride, pole jam tucked in a neighborhood. Vegas Ditches!
Moving to the final spot, things heated up. There were 2 sets of rails. The top set was a mellow down rail, that led into a double set down rail that was transferable. After everyone was lacing the upper set on the mellow down, Ranier Piramide stepped up and started trying topsoul gap topsoul on the transfer rail on the 2nd set below.
Everyone wanted to see this go down. He was committing fully to it, locking the 2nd topsoul a few times. It was buck. He decided to walk away from it, and no one else really wanted a piece of it. (no photos) In the end, San Diego’s Russell Day walked away with the victory. He was lacing all day, and deserved it.
The Sin City Session was a lot of fun, it was great to see a lot of our friends, and everyone killed it. Vegas spots are amazing, there is a lot to skate there for sure. We ended the trip by skating street the next day until dark. We packed things up, and then headed back for Arizona. We’ll be back again soon….. guaranteed.
