Revolution Tucson Session: Super Ditch & Eegees

Jon Jenkins (WAKEUP) and I have been planning a Tucson Skate Trip for quite awhile now. Tucson is loaded with untapped skate spots. With Jon needing 4-5 clips to finish Joey Chase’s section in WAKE UP, and Casey McFarland also needing clips for the NIMH Video, it was no better time than now to head down for the day. With our spot list in hand, we threw a half asleep Joey into shotgun and started our hour and a half drive south to Tucson, AZ.
EEGEES
We have a tradition to head to a famous Tucson eat spot called “Eegees” to start our day. If you head to Tucson, stop at “Eegees” and pick up an eegee (smoothie). Luckily, Eegees was right by the first spot. Jon and I have seen photos of this really colorful multi-level curve ledge online. With the help of google earth, we found it. It was in south Tucson, the ghetto. But, the best spots are usually in the worst places. Sadly, we were all too excited to skate it, we didn’t get the chance to take any photos. It was a good warmup spot, and everyone got some deals.

The next spot was called “Super Ditch”, which features 2 hip transfers into a long bank run out. Joey wanted a piece right away. Jon quickly got setup, and Joey did a few spin variations into the bank. Casey, on the other hand was “looking in the opposite direction” at this bank to grind.

You can say “looking in the opposite direction” applies to Casey’s outlook on skating. He’s always looking at obstacles no one else looks at, which is what makes his skating really stand out. Casey laced up this bank to soul 270 out pretty quick.

Next was a random cruise threw downtown Tucson. Joey found a disaster out ledge going off a double set. The ledge went off the top set, then you had to gap out to clear the 2nd set. Joey laced a disaster back nugen mute 180 2nd try (no photo). Seeing Joey skate spots, the more dangerous the spot is, the more comfortable he is. After that spot, we went to this double kink by U of A, round two for Joey. Our last trip to this rail he ended up “ribbing” it on hardspin soul attempts. The plan this time around was 270 WAKE UP.

Joey was happy to get this trick, the rail got the best of him his last trip to this spot. We ended up making another pit stop at “Eegees” after this spot, where I bought Joey an “eegee” to celebrate.
We had about an hour left of light. We decided to head to “CDO” – which is the school that Dustin Latimer skates in the credits of Brain Fear Gone (long line while talking). Everyone sessioned for a bit, hitting up all the spots around the school.
Close to 5:30 it was dark, and everyone was beat. We decided to call it a day, and drive back to Phoenix. Tucson is loaded with a lot of spots, so we’ll be heading back I’m sure. Overall, it was a productive day, Jon had a big smile on his face, because WAKE UP is really, really, really close to being done.
